At the ceremonial handover, Anne Schmitt from the management team of the kinderinsel Siegen, Tanja Bauschert, responsible for marketing, press and fundraising, and Fred Josef Pfeiffer, Managing Director of the children’s hospital, took time to talk about their indispensable work. The subsequent visit to the kinderinsel, for the expansion of which the donation is intended, made it clear to everyone how well the money is invested — and how much devoted effort is put into caring for the children there every day.
The BIKAR team was able to meet some of the young residents in person and was deeply moved by the warmth and sense of security that prevail in the kinderinsel. “Especially our kinderinsel can only exist and develop further thanks to donations. But hospital operations also rely on support — from specialized equipment to small things that enhance the well‑being of our young patients,” summarized Tanja Bauschert the needs.
A journey that moves hearts
The DRK clinic teddy, the mascot of the fundraising campaign, won not only the affection of BIKAR employees this summer at the Paris Airshow, but also that of international guests. With its own show badge and up close to rockets and aircraft, it became a living symbol of compassion and commitment. From the high‑speed train journey to Paris to visiting the Ariane 5 space rocket and the Airbus A380 — every stop on this trip aroused enthusiasm and contributed to the donation total. A stopover in Wittgenstein completed the action and mobilised further support.
A matter of the heart on Wellersberg
The symbolic check was presented by Jan Saßmannshausen and Vanessa Roth on behalf of the entire BIKAR FAMILY. Jan Saßmannshausen, CMO, spoke very personally: “As a father, I myself experienced how valuable the care at the DRK Children’s Clinic is when my son was treated there. This experience moved me deeply — which is why it is a matter of the heart for me to stand here today and show my son where he was so well cared for.”
Vanessa Roth, CMO as well, explained why this commitment is so important to her: “For us at BIKAR METALS this donation is much more than a one‑off action — it is an expression of our values. As a family business we feel deeply connected to our employees, our partners and above all our region. Children are our future, and their health, joy of life and development are close to our hearts. We are convinced that economic success and social responsibility belong together. That is why we deliberately invest in projects that have an impact locally — where we live and work. With our support we want not only to meet acute needs, but also to create prospects, give hope and show that no one is alone. We believe that as a community we can achieve more than each of us alone. This donation is a symbol of that — a sign of compassion, solidarity and the conviction that every child deserves the best possible care and a piece of normality.”
Anne Schmitt was also moved: “Every cent helps us enormously. But when we receive such an overwhelming sum, it is a personal concern for us to say ‘thank you.’ In the kinderinsel we can use this support to massively improve the quality of life of our little residents — and make dreams come true.”
The kinderinsel is an inpatient intensive care unit with a home‑like character for children and adolescents who require long‑term ventilation — a home that offers security and enables development. Anyone who visits this facility immediately senses: this is about more than medical care; it is about joy of life, prospects and humanity. With this action BIKAR METALS sends a powerful signal: the BIKAR FAMILY stands together — for the region, for families, for children. This donation is not just a number, but a sign of what is possible when people come together and work hand in hand.
